Pack Trip into the Sabrina Basin of the Bishop Creek Drainage-August 2008
|
August 6, 2008
We were awakened at
5:30 AM by the station
bell calling the cow
boys to start the day. At
7:00 AM we had
finished breakfast and
had all our gear on the
loading dock to be
loaded on the mules.
We were ready to be
fitted to our saddles for
our ride into the camp
site. Every one except
Jocelyn was to ride a
mule; she had a
beautiful horse. Scott,
Laurie and Rachel
were going to walk into
the camp(about 7
miles). We got on the
mules at the trail head
rather than ride the
two miles down hill
from the pack station.
One of the mules was
in training(ridden by
our guide), at the first
water crossing there
was some question in
its mind about crossing
the water so we had a
mule wreck. After
some persuasion the
mules were once again
under way. It is a
beautiful ride. Took
about four hours. The
gear had arrived at the
camp site ahead of us
and was already
unloaded. We spent the
remainder of the day
getting the camp set up
and the kitchen open
for business.
Dinner that night was
scrambled egg burritos.
As we always do, Mary
Ann and I slept in the
open under the stars.
The Perseid meteor
shower was two day
away and we had some
great fire works during
the night.

Lots of snacks and snow cones.
The nature we saw at the campsite was amazing.
Pictures of us once we got there.
